Apple butter was one of the things the Baudelaires took from one of the Squalor kitchens before investigating the apartment building of 667 Dark Avenue, so they wouldn’t get hungry performing this long and perilous task.
Apple butter is actually not a butter at all, nor does it contain any butter. It is simply a spread or smooth jam made from apples.
If you would like to make your own apple butter, to smear on some crackers as the Baudelaires did, here is a good recipe.
